There are many causes of reflux, to discover what they are, and it is always worthwhile to try and find what may be causing your reflux, before you turn to a reflux medication or look for reflux help.
There are tens of millions of people worldwide that suffer from some form of reflux, and in many cases this is often a condition that a person has to live with for the rest of their life.
The stomach produces acid to break up the food that you eat. When this acid starts to travel up the esophagus, it results in the condition known as acid reflux or reflux. Acid travelling up your esophagus can result in it being damaged.
Damage to the LES is one of the most common causes of reflux. This is a small valve that connects the esophagus to the stomach. The food that you eat will make its way down the esophagus, it goes through the LES, which then closes to stop the acid in your stomach from escaping.
If you LES is damaged or weak, it may not be able to close fully to prevent stomach acid shooting up your esophagus. This acid causes the burning sensation that is known as heartburn or acid reflux. Most people will turn to to medication that decreases the amount of stomach acid that is produced. The cause of the reflux will not go away, but the symptoms are eased. This is one of the most common causes of reflux.
Another cause for reflux can be due to a hiattal hernia. This particular hernia re-positions the LES. Normally the LESĀ rests next to your diaphragm. A hiattal hernia pushes the LES higher into the chest. This becomes problematic because the diaphragm and LES are no longer working in unison. The seperation leads to less effectiveness.
You may not be aware of this but smoking is one of the major causes of reflux. Smoking clogs up your esophagus and it can take some time for this smoke to disappear.
It is after you have eaten, that reflux occurs. The trick to avoid acid reflux problems” href=”http://www.easierwayz.com/pages/diet-and-nutrition/stop-heartburn-fast-review/”>acid reflux problems as much as possible is to eat small meals. The bigger the meal, the bigger the amount of acid is needed to break down that meal. Try not to eat anything a couple of hours before going to sleep. While you are on your feet, the acid will be kept down because of gravity. The effects of gravity are reduced when you lie down after eating, this allows the acid to slide up the esophagus.
All these are regular causes of reflux.
